4. Aluminum Cans Donβt ImpactΒ aΒ Beerβs FlavorΒ Β
Like many people, youΒ mightΒ believeΒ beer tastes better out of a bottle. However, blind taste tests have shownΒ thatΒ thereβsΒ noΒ consistentΒ differenceΒ betweenΒ theΒ flavorsΒ of bottled and canned beer.Β Β
InΒ 2016,Β researchersΒ hadΒ 151Β beer lovers taste the same beer in both cans and bottles. Then, they tastedΒ eachΒ beer in a blind taste test. WhileΒ more than 61% of the participants preferred bottled beer to canned beer when they saw its container, those numbers didnβt hold up in the blind testing. Instead,Β the numbers were split almost evenly between canned and bottled beer.Β
If you feel likeΒ aΒ canned beer tastes tinny or metallic, itβs not the canβs fault. All beer cans are lined with a coating that protectsΒ theΒ beer. Instead, that metallic taste is likely caused by problems in the brewing process, such as issues with water chemistry and ingredient storage.Β
Remember also that youβre not really supposed to drink your beer out of the can anyway;Β beer always tastes better pouredΒ into a glass, whether it came to you in a can or a bottle.

IS BEER BETTER IN A CAN OR A BOTTLE?
Cans used to get a bad rap, associated with holding cheaper, more chuggable beer. But canned beers are much more likely to be fresher, and therefore taste better, than those held in a bottle. Thatβs because a can locks in the flavors of the beer and keeps out light, a major beer enemy, preventing it from souring or spoiling sooner. While a can of beer will still eventually also lose its freshness, it takes much longer than bottled beer to do so. This is why so many breweries are jumping on the bandwagon that Oskar Blues started over a decade ago and are canning even their highest-end beers. Because at the end of the day, beer is only good when itβs fresh, so even though a bottle may be sexier, wouldnβt you rather drink a good beer poured from a can than a bad one poured from a bottle?
