Russian forces continued to make incremental, grinding, and costly progress in eastern Ukraine on June 2. Russian troops continued operations to capture Severodonetsk and further operations to capture Lysychansk. Russian military leadership will likely use the capture of these two cities to claim they have “liberated” all of Luhansk Oblast before turning to Donetsk Oblast but Russian forces are unlikely to have the forces necessary to take substantial territory in Donetsk Oblast after suffering further losses around Severodonetsk. Russian forces are evidently limited by terrain in the Donbas and will continue to face challenges crossing the Siverskyi Donets River to complete the encirclement of Severodonetsk-Lysychansk and make further advances westward of Lyman towards Slovyansk via Raihorodok.

Heavy weapons need to be sent 'quickly' — Ukrainian Parliament speaker

Ukrainian Parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk called for a quick delivery of weapon systems from Germany, the Funke-Mediengruppe reported.
"Now it's also about the decisions being implemented quickly," Stefanchuk said, referring to Germany's announcement that it would send heavy weapons to Ukraine.
While visiting Berlin, Stefanchuk announced that he would invite German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Kyiv to "give a speech to the Ukrainian parliament."
"It is very important for us that the ice is broken and that Ukraine has the opportunity to get the newest and most modern weapons from Germany," Stefanchuk said.

He also urged Berlin to send more weapons than already announced, saying that Kyiv requires "heavy weapons such as self-propelled howitzers, multiple rocket launchers, air defense systems and anti-ship guns."

Stefanchuk said that if Ukraine loses the war, Russian troops will be in the Baltic states and Poland within a month.
Commenting on the possibility of a cease-fire with Moscow, Stefanchuk said that "there are red lines for us. We will not give up any of our territories — neither Donbas nor Crimea."

Xe tiếp tế chở thuốc men của tình nguyện viên Hà Lan đã tới Severodonetsk.  Thông tin thành phố bị quân Nga chiếm hoàn toàn lại một lần nữa là tin vịtLol

Three ambulances, fully loaded with the critical supplies, reached #Severodonetsk, thanks to the head of Luhansk region Serhiy Gaidai. The situation there is dire, and we're really happy that the supplies made it to where they were desperately needed, in time.

Three more ambulances went to different hospitals in #Kramatorsk in Donetsk region. It is not at the front line yet as is Severodonetsk, but the city is being sheleed heavily and we hope that these vehicles can bring at least some relief to the locals.

Two more 🚑 were sent to #Dnipro and one to #Zaporizhzhia to emergency medicine centers. Yet another 🚑🚑 reached an emergency medicine center in #Mykolaiv. One vehicle was handed over to
@serhiyprytula foundation and the last one went to an institution in Lviv region.

EU approved the 6th package of sanctions against Russia. What does it include?

The EU Council has approved the 6th package of sanctions against Russia in response to the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, targeting Russian oil imports and banning three Russian media outlets.

Ban on Russian oil imports

The EU prohibits the purchase, import, or transfer of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia into the EU. The phasing out of Russian oil will take from 6 months for crude oil to 8 months for other refined petroleum products.

A temporary exception is foreseen for imports of crude oil by pipeline into those EU member states that suffer from a specific dependence on Russian supplies and have no viable alternative options due to their geographic situation. However, the EU refused to take an ASAP decision to ban the import of oil through the pipeline.

According to the Brussels-based Bruegel think tank, the EU buys 3 to 3.5 million barrels of oil a day from Russia, sending $400 million to the country daily. This is about 27% of EU oil imports. According to the International Energy Agency, in 2021, revenues from oil and gas accounted for 45% of Russia's federal budget.

Disconnection from SWIFT

The EU disconnects from SWIFT three Russia's largest banks Sberbank, Credit Bank of Moscow, Russian Agricultural Bank, and the Belarusian Bank For Development And Reconstruction.

Russian media outlets

The EU is suspending the broadcasting activities in the EU of three more Russian state-owned outlets: RTR Planeta, Russia 24, and TV Centre International. Those media outlets are engaged in propaganda in favor of Russia.

But these measures will not prevent those media outlets and their staff from carrying out research activities and interviews in the EU.

Export restrictions

The EU expanded the list of persons and entities from Russia and Belarus that are prohibited from delivering dual-use items and technologies that could potentially be used in the defense sector.

The EU also expanded the list of goods and technology, which may contribute to the technological enhancement of Russia's defense and security sector. This will include 80 chemicals that can be used to produce chemical weapons.

Individual sanctions

Sanctions against security and military apparatus members, linked in particular to massacres in Bucha in Kyiv Oblast, entities in the industrial and technological sector linked to Russian aggression, oligarchs, and actors of Russian propaganda and their family members.

Earlier, Interfax-Ukraine, citing a source top official familiar with the matter, reported that EU ambassadors have decided to exclude the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, from the 6th package of sanctions. The day before, Bloomberg said that Hungary lobbied for this decision. EU Council website does not mention Patriarch Kirill in the sanctions list.

The 5th package of sanctions

The EU Council approved the 5th package of sanctions on April 8. The new restrictions included a ban on coal imports from August 2022. Coal imports to the EU now amount to about €8 billion a year. The package also included a ban on granting access to EU ports to vessels registered under the Russian flag, but with certain exceptions. In addition, EU Council expanded the personal sanctions list.

Ukrainian embassy says Russia ships 'stolen' wheat to Syria

BEIRUT, June 2 (Reuters) - Russia has sent its ally Syria an estimated 100,000 tonnes of wheat stolen from Ukraine since invading the country, the Ukrainian embassy in Beirut said, describing the shipments as "criminal activity".

In a statement to Reuters, the embassy said the shipments included one aboard the Matros Pozynich, a Russian-flagged vessel which docked at Syria's main sea port Latakia in late May.

Data from Refinitiv showed the Matros Pozynich loading wheat at the port of Sevastopol in Crimea - annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014 - with a May 19 departure date and the discharge location given as Syria.

Satellite images from Planet Labs PBC on May 29 showed the same vessel docked in Latakia.

Ukraine's embassy in Lebanon, citing Ukrainian law enforcement, alleged the grain aboard the Matros Pozynich had been "stolen" from Ukrainian storage facilities in areas newly occupied by Russian forces.

Russia's defence ministry and the Syrian information ministry did not immediately reply to Reuters' requests for comment. Russia has previously denied allegations of stealing wheat from Ukraine. read more

"The wheat is stolen from a facility that combines wheat from three Ukrainian regions into one batch," the embassy said.

"This is criminal activity," it said, adding that it had tried to reach out to the Syrian authorities but had never received a response.

The embassy said more than 100,000 tonnes of "plundered" Ukrainian wheat had arrived in Syria over the last three months. With international wheat prices above $400 a tonne, such a volume would be worth more than $40 million.

Reuters was not able to independently verify the Ukrainian allegations.

Syria's information ministry did not immediately respond to emailed questions from Reuters seeking comment on the accusation the country had received 100,000 tonnes of stolen Ukrainian wheat, and that the deliveries amounted to criminal activity.

Neither did it respond to a question on whether Syria had failed to answer Ukrainian correspondence on the issue.

The Syrian agriculture ministry and officials at the Latakia port did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Russia has been an important source of wheat imports for Syria since the start of its civil war in 2011, both as commercial imports and humanitarian aid. Moscow has also provided President Bashar al-Assad with vital military support during the conflict, sending its air force to Syria in 2015.

Russia pledged to supply Syria with one million tonnes of wheat under a bilateral deal in 2021, according to Interfax. Syrian grain imports have included shipments from Crimea.

The Matros Pozynich had initially set its destination for Beirut, Lebanon, but turned its transponder off on May 25 off the Lebanese coast, according to Refinitiv ship tracking data.

On Wednesday, the ship turned its transponder back on and could be tracked sailing west, away from the Syrian coast, according to movements shown by MarineTraffic.com.

500,000 TONNES

Russia invaded Ukraine in February, launching what it called a "special operation" to disarm and "denazify" the country. Ukraine and its Western allies call this a baseless pretext for a war to seize territory.

In a statement last month, Ukraine's agriculture ministry said the theft of 500,000 tonnes of wheat had already been recorded from occupied regions of the country.

The grain was being sent either to Russia, primarily from the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, or to Crimea from the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, the ministry added.

In April, the Kremlin denied allegations of stolen wheat, saying it did not know where the information came from.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency on May 25 that Russia strongly denied Western media reports of stealing grain from Ukraine: "We are not stealing anything from anyone."

However, the Russian-controlled Ukrainian region of Kherson began exporting grain to Russia, the TASS news agency reported, citing Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the pro-Russian military-civilian administration, earlier this week. He did not say how payment had been organised. read more
Last month, Ukraine thanked Egypt, one of the world's largest wheat importers, for turning away a Russian ship loaded with grain which Kyiv also said had been stolen from Ukraine.

UN agrees to change Turkey’s official name to ‘Türkiye’

The United Nations has changed the Republic of Turkey’s country name at the organisation from “Turkey” to “Türkiye”, following a request from Ankara for the change.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that a letter had been received on Wednesday from the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu addressed to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, requesting the use of “Türkiye” instead of “Turkey” for all affairs.

The spokesman said the country name change became effective from the moment the letter was received.

Cavusoglu announced the letter’s official submission to the UN and other international organisations on Tuesday.

“Together with our Directorate of Communications, we have been successful in preparing a good ground for this,” said the letter.

“We have made it possible for the UN and other international organisations, countries to see this change to using ‘Türkiye’,” Cavusoglu told Anadolu Agency.

Turkey began the move to change its internationally recognised official name in English to Türkiye in December after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan released a memorandum and asked the public to use Türkiye to describe the country in every language.

“Türkiye is accepted as an umbrella brand for our country in national and international venues,” Erdogan said at the time. “Türkiye is the best representation and expression of the Turkish people’s culture, civilization and values.”

Erdogan also advised companies to use “made in Türkiye” for their exported goods, and instructed state agencies to use Türkiye in their correspondence.

Thêm thông tin từ Bộ Quốc Phòng Anh quốc:

Russia’s assault into northern Ukraine ended in a costly failure. Russia failed to implement its own principles of war. With the limited combat readiness of many units, it spread its forces too thinly without enough support from artillery and combat aircraft.

Above all, it was based on wildly optimistic assessments about the welcome Russian troops would receive in Ukraine. Russia has now adopted a “strategy of attrition” and is achieving slow and costly gains in the Donbas. #StandWithUkraine

Today marks the 100th day since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russian forces failed to achieve their initial objectives to seize Kyiv and Ukrainian centres of government. Staunch Ukrainian resistance and the failure to secure Hostomel airfield in the first 24 hours led to Russian offensive operations being repulsed.

Following the failure of the initial plan, through false planning assumptions and poor tactical execution, Russia adapted its operational design to focus on the Donbas.

Russia is now achieving tactical success in the Donbas. Russian forces have generated and maintained momentum and currently appear to hold the initiative over Ukrainian opposition.

Russia controls over 90% of Luhansk Oblast and is likely to complete control in the next two weeks. Russia has achieved these recent tactical successes at significant resource cost, and by concentrating force and fires on a single part of the overall campaign.

Russia has not been able to generate manoeuvre or movement on other fronts or axes, all of which have transitioned to the defensive.

Measured against Russia’s original plan, none of the strategic objectives have been achieved. In order for Russia to achieve any form of success will require continued huge investment of manpower and equipment, and is likely to take considerable further time.

We are continuing to provide aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. #StandWithUkraine
