Elderly Chinese Woman Brutally Attacked In San Francisco

By Joe Vazquez

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — An elderly woman was clinging to life after she was brutally assaulted at a park near her home in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley.

Police responded to a burglary call at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday at the woman’s home on the 1000 block of Visitacion Ave. But officers found the woman unconscious at the Visitacion Valley Playground across the street from her home.

My 90 year old Grandma’s house at Visitacion Valley in southeast corner of SF was broken in to (2nd time in a year) when she left to exercise in the park and they didn’t find anything valuable. So they drag and beat her up to a bloody pulp in the park. People assaulting elders in this underserved neighborhood is just plane wrong. Any violence is WRONG! The oppressed are oppressed. Hurt people hurt people. I grew up here and we need help! We have to unify and live in peace. I shared a LIVE video interviewing the woman who shares the house with my grandma. #notmygrandma #lovevisvalley

Family members have identified the woman as 89-year-old Yik Oi Huang.

“My dad found her laying unconscious with her head covered in blood and her arm bruised,” said Sasanna Yee, the victim’s granddaughter.

The woman was rushed to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to San Francisco police spokeswoman Grace Gatpandan.

It was not clear what weapons were used, if any, said Gatpandan. The nature of her injuries was not disclosed.

“We have officers on foot, even as we speak, going door-to-door, knocking, canvassing, seeking videos from a large area so that no stone is left unturned,” said San Francisco Police Capt. Jack Hart.

Hart gives more details in the presser video below.

Yee indicated in a Facebook post that her grandmother “had been beaten to a pulp” and that her home had been burglarized for the second time within a year.

“She is a rosy-cheeked, jolly grandmother,” said Yee. “She has a radiant heart, exercises every day.”

In the video below, Yee and San Francisco Supervisors Shamann Walton and Norman Yee react to the vicious attack.

The woman has not been conscious, so investigators have not been able to confirm whether anything was stolen, Gatpandan said.

Police did not identify any suspects.
